Frequently Asked Questions.
Common questions about Designwinds products, programs, and how we work with customers. For questions not addressed below, please use our contact form.
Quoting & Sales
How do I request a quote?
Submit a Request for Quotation through our RFQ form, or use the contact form for general inquiries. Include application, construction preferences, volume, and target timing to accelerate response.
What is your standard RFQ response time?
Acknowledgment of receipt within one business day. Detailed quoting typically within 3–5 business days for standard configurations. Engineered-to-order programs may require additional engineering review before pricing.
Do you provide pricing online?
No. Designwinds products are configured to customer specifications and are not sold from a fixed catalog. All pricing is provided through formal quotation following an RFQ submission.
Do you sell direct to end users or only through OEMs?
Designwinds primarily supplies HVAC OEMs and industrial customers integrating thermal components into finished equipment. Direct end-user sales are evaluated on a program basis.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums vary by product line and configuration. Many engineered programs are produced in lot sizes appropriate to OEM build schedules. Lot size and minimum order discussion is part of the quoting process.
Engineering & Design
Do you offer engineering support?
Yes. Engineering review is provided as part of customer programs from initial specification through production. This includes drawing review, design-for-manufacturability feedback, and first-article support. See Capabilities — Engineering.
Can you support custom designs?
Yes. The Series 900 product line covers engineered-to-order thermal components built to customer drawings and specifications. See Custom Thermal Solutions.
What file formats do you accept for drawings?
Common formats including PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, and native CAD files for major systems. File transfer is coordinated after RFQ acknowledgment. Please indicate file format and approximate size in your initial submission.
Do you provide thermal performance simulations?
Internal performance modeling is used for product configuration and is provided as part of quoting on a program-by-program basis. Detailed simulation reports for customer use are available on engineered programs subject to scope and confidentiality agreements.
Production & Lead Time
What are typical lead times?
Lead time depends on product line, configuration, and order quantity. Standard fin-and-tube and microchannel coils on running programs typically ship within weeks of order; new programs and engineered-to-order assemblies require additional lead time for engineering, first-article, and production setup. Specific lead times are confirmed during quoting.
Where are products manufactured?
Designwinds manufactures at a single integrated operation covering fabrication, brazing, coil production, and assembly. Specific facility information is provided to active program customers through the sales relationship.
Do you support kanban / consignment / VMI arrangements?
Inventory and replenishment arrangements are reviewed on a program basis. Many running OEM programs operate under release schedules, blanket orders, or kanban-style replenishment.
Quality & Records
What quality records do you maintain?
Designwinds maintains production, inspection, and test records internally for each program. Records include in-process and final inspection data, leak and pressure test results, and traceability information. See Quality.
Can you support customer-specific quality requirements?
Yes. Customer-specific inspection plans, first-article requirements, retained samples, and program-specific documentation are supported on engineered-to-order work and reviewed during program engineering.
Do you provide first-article inspection (FAI) reports?
Yes. First-article inspection reports are issued by default on engineered-to-order programs and on request for standard configurations during new program release.
Programs & Sourcing
Are you a Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier?
Designwinds supplies as a Tier 1 component manufacturer to HVAC OEMs and industrial customers. We do not act as a contract manufacturer for finished equipment.
Do you accept second-source / replacement sourcing programs?
Yes. Designwinds frequently quotes against replacement-sourcing programs for both fin-and-tube and microchannel coils. Replacement programs benefit from accurate drawings, performance data, and prior part numbers where available.
How do I become a Designwinds supplier?
See our Suppliers page for information on the supplier qualification process and how to submit company information for review.
Portal & Support
What is the Customer Portal?
The Customer Portal provides active program customers with access to program documentation, order status, and quality records. Portal access is provisioned through the sales relationship.
I forgot my portal password. How do I reset it?
Password resets are handled by your sales representative or by emailing info@designwinds.com. The portal is currently undergoing maintenance as part of the Q1 2026 brand refresh; documentation requests during this period are routed through the sales relationship.
